Do not flush wipes, trash down your toilet

We know that it’s difficult to find toilet paper right now because of panic purchasing that led to an artificial shortage at stores. As a result, our sewer system has begun to see some things in it that should not be there, so we wanted to take a moment and remind you of what can and cannot be flushed down the toilet.
Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. Paper towels, cotton balls and swabs, cloth rags, non-flushable wipes, diapers, feminine hygeine products, hair, dental floss and medicine should never be flushed down the toilet.
As toilet paper remains hard to find, many citizens may turn to alternatives such as Baby wipes and sanitizing wipes. These substitutes can cause their own set of problems.
Even products marked “flushable” can cause issues for sewer systems. flushable wipes in large quantities, while we understand why they are being used, can clog pipes, cause backups, and lead to issues with our City sewer system. flushable wipes take far longer than normal toilet paper to break down, which increases the frequency of clogged pipes. If you can avoid flushing wipes, please do, as the problems they cause can be greater than the convenience they provide.
Wastewater operators are working hard around the clock every day to ensure the City’s sewer system runs effectively. Let’s help them out and do our part to keep the system clear.
