Homemade Cleaning Wipes
by Sandi @ Save-U IGA
Round plastic container with lid (diameter of paper towel)
Roll of paper towel
Press ’n Seal wrap or tape (optional)
2 3/4 cups of water
1/2 cup of antibacterial liquid cleaner (eg. Lysol, Mr. Clean, Pinesol)
Electric drill with 1/2 inch bit
Sharp knife and cutting board
Drill a 1/2 inch hole in the center of the container lid.
Use the knife to cut the paper towel roll in half, cutting through the tube.
Place one of the paper towel halves in the container and save the other half to use later.
Pour the Cleaning solution (water + antibacterial cleaner) over the paper towel. Place the lid on the container and let the paper towel absorb the Cleaning solution until the paper tube is soft. It may take four hours for the Cleaning solution to be absorbed by all of the paper towels.
Gently pull out the cardboard tube from the center of the paper towel and discard. Pull out the inside sheet of the paper towel roll from where the cardboard has been, being very careful not to tear it.
Carefully thread the end of the paper towel through the 1/2 inch hole and put the lid back on.
If you wish, cover the hole in the lid with a small piece of tape to keep the solution from evaporating. Pull gently every time you use the Cleaning wipes as you don’t want to end up having to take the lid off every time you want to use a wipe.
If the wipes start to dry out, add more water or Cleaning solution as necessary. Let them sit for 4 hours for the paper towel to properly absorb the new solution before you use them again.
Note – these wipes will still work even if you do not wish to drill a hole in the top of your container. Just make sure to always choose a wipe from the center of the roll. Alternatively, I am sure you could reuse a purchased wipes container.
